How to shorten links quickly using the bookmarklet
Step 1) Visit http://l.pr in a new browser window. Click on the link title 'LinksPreadeR' and keep the mouse button held down.
Step 2) While holding the mouse button down, drag the link to the Toolbar.
Step 3) If you are prompted to specify a name for this link, feel free to do so. Also, in some browsers like older versions of internet explorer you might see a warning saying 'You are adding a link that may not be safe. Do you want to continue?'. Just click 'Yes'.
Step 4) You should see that the button is now loaded in your toolbar. The button is now succcessfully installed.
Step 5) Say, next time you are browsing an interesting website; maybe a product page at Amazon that has a really long web address. Say you wanted to shorten this web address and twitter/email this link to your friend and want to make sure that the long address does not fold/break while copying/sending out (like they always do!). Simply, click on the Linkspreader button you created earlier.
Step 6) You will automatically be brought to the L.pr site and shown the shortened address. Voila! You can use the link directly or you can add a comment to this shortened link to personalize it.
NOTE: If your browser does not support dragging links at all (e.g. Some versions of Internet Explorer), right click on the links and choose 'Add to Favorites'. To shorten the address of a page you are currently visiting, simply click on the 'LinksPreadeR!' favorite item, and you will automatically be brought to the L.pr site and shown the shortened address
How can I see stats for my links?
Simply append '+' to the end of your link (without the quotes) and view it in a browser. For example, if your link is
http://l.pr/a448e
After adding '+', it would look like
http://l.pr/a448e+
If your links was http://l.pr/a448e/jane_check_this_out
After adding '+', it would look like
http://l.pr/a448e/jane_check_this_out+
NO-SPAM POLICY or I get a message saying my address cannot be shortened?
Possibly the only reason we would refuse to shorten your web address is maybe because it is listed on spam lists like URIBL. These lists are basically a compilation of known domains that are have been involved in spamming people. You can check if your main domain is listed on URIBL here and if it is listed in error, please let them know and they might "de-list" it. Then, come back here and happily morph/shorten away!
